“So The Story Goes” is a collection of straight ahead pop tunes co-produced and co-written with Graham Gouldman. What just started out a couple of years ago with Graham and myself just sitting down with two acoustic guitars has finally ended up with a solo album that I’m really proud of. Following on from a great reaction to an initial couple of songs, people began asking if I was going to make a whole album of my material, who would be involved and would I be playing it live etc. So we decided to write some more tunes and found that the partnership worked really well and we were both pleased with the results.

After setting a date that we needed to finish the album by (the start of the 2011 UK tour), we spent the last 3 or 4 months finishing 10 tunes together that have all ended up on the album. As you can imagine, Graham’s influence has been immense and it became very obvious from the start that the album would be a joint production.

I managed to draft Rick Fenn from 10cc in on a couple of tunes in between his epic journeys back and forth to Byron Bay and was able to get my old friend Mal Maddock to play some piano and organ on two of the tracks. Possibly one of the highlights of my musical career was having Brian Bennett play on “Take Me Dancing”. To have the drummer of the very first record I ever bought, play on my album was a great honour.

As I say on the album notes, it has been a great experience and the album has turned out exactly how I imagined it to be. Straight ahead pop songs with lots of harmonies, even more guitars(!) and a little dash of that old 10cc humour.
